What is BODY PARTS™?
Brief: Initially called BODY PARTS™: Keepsake Casts, the name was a humorous, play-on-words, sculpture service offered to a few friends in the mid 1980s using dental impression materials. The first 'prototypes' of The Original LifeCast™ Kit were put together in 1987 for use at my studio. Word-of-mouth enthusiasm led to it being subsequently developed into our playful trademark for an assortment of LifeCast™ kits and materials specifically engineered for this unique art.
Studio & Product History
Is it safe?
Brief: Absolutely yes, when used sensibly and according to instructions. However, even water can be dangerous when abused.
MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets)
How many things can I do with one kit?
Brief: Except for certain specialized applications the basic BODY PARTS™ and LifeCast™ sculpture mediums are not reusable. Similar to most art materials both the quality and quantity of work produced depends on the artist's skill and the size of their design. For example a single Original LifeCast™ Kit could be used for as many as 10 infant hands or a single human LifeMask™ portrait.
Alternative & Advanced Techniques
How much does it cost?
Brief: It depends on size and of course, skill. Materials for a life cast the size of an infant's hand or foot can be as little as 50¢ or less! More ambitious designs including lifecasts in bronze can run into the thousands of dollars.
