S.C.G. Replacement Letter:
|
To the beginning LifeCast™ artist,
Thank you for your interest in LifeCasting™. This guarantee can help you gain confidence in the basics of our techniques.
It is unfortunate that you have had unsatisfactory results from the use of our BODY PARTS™: ChildCast™ or LifeCast™ Kit. It is our policy to give our customers the benefit of the doubt and help them accomplish this unique project.
This is an unprecedented offer for an art materials manufacturer to make - free replacements if you make a mistake.
However, we do require the shipping cost of $5.00 to be paid. If you have received only this sheet, with no materials, please remit that amount to the address shown.
The Successful Creativity Guarantee™ only applies to the specific, simple project described in our instructions. Other ideas presented in the "Alternative or Advanced Techniques" and other sections are very workable but require experience. Additional kits or bulk materials are available for these projects when you are ready.
The Challenge Of A New Medium:
Little or no 'base' of experience exists in the artistic community. LifeCast™ such as these cannot be made with any other methods. It is unlikely that previous training will have prepared you
Lifecasting is a hybrid of mold making, sculpture, anatomy & psychology. Practice improves any skill.
This is a simple but, very precise and versatile process. Temperatures, times and ratios play crucial roles in Lifecasting. The benefits are obvious but, can be occasionally challenging. (Remember your first time with watercolor or an airbrush?)
Do not feel alone. We are here to help overcome these obstacles. Please re-read the instructions carefully. Perform the practice exercises. I'm sure the replacement material will accomplish your project. The most typical problems are listed below.
Thank You!
|
Typical Beginner Problems:
|
The ArtFORM™ sets too quickly. If mixed beyond set, it becomes like cottage cheese.
- 1. You have used water that is too warm, drastically reducing the mixing time. This is a useful characteristic but, is an advanced technique which should not be attempted by a beginner. Be sure to use cool, even cold water (60 to 70 degrees F) for the ArtFORM™. Your normal tap water may not be cold enough, especially in the summer or in hot climates.
- , This can also happen if the powder is too warm. If, for example it has been sitting in direct sunlight or in a hot automobile for hours. Make sure the ArtForm™ is also no warmer than normal room temperature.
- 2. Your water to ArtFORM™ ratio is too low. 1 1/2 to 2 parts water for every 1 part powder is the typical ratio. The ChildCast™ and LifeCast™ kits have pre-measured amounts for the range of water needed in their canisters. However, if your design displaces a lot of water after filling the can (i.e.; several hands or especially large items) it may result in a lower ratio. If this is the case then you must use colder water and/or blend it for less time (ie; 1 to 1.5 minutes instead of the full 2).
- 3. Your water may be contaminated with minerals ("hard water" contains magnesium, calcium, etc.). Use distilled or bottled water.
The ArtFORM™ sets too slow:
This is the reverse of the above. Tap water in some climates is extremely cold and slows the set. Warm it slightly or blend it longer. Also, too much water for the amount of powder in your specific kit will not produce very firm molds and will require longer to set. Beginners should not use any container other than the kit's packaging.
|
The extremities of your LifeCast™ (i.e.. fingers, etc.) are distorted or lumpy:
This results from damage to the mold when removing a body part. Air must be blown deeply into these areas or the suction will cause damage. Make sure your model, especially children, are loose before they pull out. Be gentle. The LifeCast™ is incomplete (i.e.; missing portions):
There are pieces missing from the LifeCast™:
This can be caused either by Air Traps or by a low water to ArtCast™ cement ratio. The ArtCast™ ratio is the opposite of ArtForm™. Use half as much water as powder. ArtCast™ is not as sensitive to temperature as ArtFORM™.
Very Rare - getting the materials confused:
- This is why ALL beginners MUST do the practice exercise and children (defined by law as everyone under 18) must NEVER be allowed to do a LifeCast™ without direct, adult supervision at all times.
- , Putting a hand into the ArtCAST™ cement instead of the ArtFORM™ mold powder can trap it and require a doctor's help to saw the cement off. This can also result in serious burns.
- , During the practice exercise your mistake will become obvious, exposing only the fingertips, which will not become stuck.
- , The amounts of water to powder ratios for the 2 materials are completely different. The pre-measured amount of cement should not harden for an hour or more (if at all) with the amount of water used for the mold compound. For this serious mistake to occur, you would have to mix up both the bags, the water amounts and the sequence as described in the instructions. Despite all of this, it could happened.
